The vast majority of autistic children do not need or candidates for physical therapy services. In my experience, most children with autism can benefit from occupational therapy. So if your goal is to work with a bunch of children on the autism spectrum, is much better than the bet OT PT.
Joe, I admire your willingness to work with autistic children. I am an educator working with students with a variety of challenges, including autism. If you do not, whenever I want to say, volunteered to spend more than six weeks to conduct a wide range of children with autism may be a slippery slope of deception.
I advise you to understand the difference between the physical and occupational therapy. If possible visit by the Director of Special Education at the university to be able to explain the details of his professional future.
Also, the trend to deliberately cuts in education. Special education is not immune than parents who were interested in services for their children. If you are willing to work with the rich or well off, would the average family size of an autistic child be difficult to raise money for treatment that would not be included in IEPS find work.
Finally, his work does not want a piece of cake. The work is hard. They are the parents whoas a unique gift in his son's fear and frustration are often entrusted to you. They ask questions too difficult to answer, or, worse, no answer.
I wish you luck and hope that this information will help you.
